Van Gaal: I might not be Manchester United’s manager

It’s widely regarded as already being a done deal, but Louis van Gaal says he is not sure that he will become Manchester United’s new manager after all.

The Dutchman, who will coach Holland at the forthcoming World Cup, is said to have already agreed to take over at Old Trafford after the tournament in Brazil.

But speaking this week, Van Gaal says that he has not agreed to join United and may end up never taking charge of the club.

‘We have not reached that stage yet [of signing a contract],’ said van Gaal.

‘It’s not even clear if we will reach that stage. One has to wait.

‘Some of the things that have been suggested are absolutely untrue.’

United were expected to announce Van Gaal’s arrival this week, but some reports suggest that was put off with the two parties still thrashing out terms.
